Here’s Why Wiz Khalifa Didn’t Attend The 2022 Met Gala

As many of us know, we’re on the road to federal cannabis legalization. Hey, even decriminalization would be a win. But to make that happen, we need to leave all stigmas behind. 

If you live near or around New York state, chances are you’ve heard that recreational cannabis is legal there. We’re sure those residing in busy New York City were first to take advantage of legalization, sparking a joint in front of the many NYPD vehicles parked up around the city. 

It’s not just your average locals indulging in weed thanks to the recent law, but a handful of celebrities too. 

Last night, the 2022 Met Gala was in full swing. 

Wiz Khalifa has made an appearance at the Met Gala in the past but didn’t seem to make the cut this year.

Why? Weed, of course. 

In a recent tweet posted to his Twitter page, he wrote, “They were scared of me smoking on the red carpet or at the event, so no met gala.”

He added, “I don’t blame em, but weed is legal, dude, sheesh.”

He later tweeted that smoking weed at the Met Gala was something he’s done in the past. “I did it last time, and they freaked out apparently. With a doob, of course.”

Fans got ahold of the tweet, and we’re proudly on Wiz’s side. They mentioned how cannabis might be legal in New York, but it sure isn’t normalized. Others even offered to bring a portable ashtray so Wiz doesn’t leave a mess behind. 

It’s not uncommon for large and celebrity-backed events to shun cannabis, even when the plant’s legal status is changing throughout the nation. Perhaps this is why we haven’t seen other proud celebrity stoners on the Met Gala’s red carpet. 

This sparks the question; if legalization doesn’t normalize cannabis use, what will?
