A ‘Round-Up’ of the States Up for Cannabis Legalization Votes in November 2020

Five states across the country are getting ready to vote and decide what their position on recreational and medical cannabis laws will be going forward. Las time out, during the 2016 election votes proved to be a big win for the industry. Resulting in 8 out of 9 States voting to pass legalization measures on cannabis.

As of 2018 the Farm Bill was passed that decided on the legality of CBD across all 50 States. However, this is medical cannabis that includes THC what we’re talking about in this case. For which 33 states have legalized medical usage of the substance and 11 of those 33 states allowing recreational use.

The industry stands to make millions, and possibly billions in the coming years if all 5 States decide on a passing vote. So, it’s fair to assume that the coming vote is no minor deal.

Arizona has been battling against opposition for recreational use of marijuana to be legalized since the elections of 2016 when the law did not pass winning by a short margin (51.3% of voters voting against it). With development of cannabis related laws over the past presidential term and a growing industry where there’s a lot of money to be made to back the passing vote, it’s expected that Arizona votes positive. But only time will tell.

The measure in Arizona states that all adults over 21 years old may possess, consume, or transfer up to 1 ounce of legally cultivated cannabis.

The measure in New Jersey states that all adults over 21 years old can consume and possess cannabis. However, recreational cannabis products are subject to states sales taxes as any other consumable.

The measure up for vote in South Dakota establishes the rules for a medical cannabis program for qualifying patients and a secondary amendment that condones and legalizes recreational use as well.

The law in Montana up for voters to decide states that all adults over the age of 21 are legally allowed to purchase, possess, and consume recreational cannabis. As in New Jersey, cannabis would be subject to state taxes.

The State is putting up for vote the decision to make medical cannabis legal. One petition would allow licensed physicians to recommend and prescribe cannabis to patients with a qualifying condition. A second petition renders medical cannabis legal only for terminally ill patients.
