Little Steven is pushing federal legalization, and so is his new cannabis brand.

In his third big break, musician and actor Steven Van Zandt is gaining incredible traction in the cannabis industry with his new wellness business. The rocker gained legendary status with Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band and is also known for his role on The Sopranos.

To use his stardom for good, Van Zandt is venturing into the cannabis industry and marching to the beat of his own drum. He recently told Boston.com about his newest cannabis business, Little Steven’s Underground Apothecary, whose pre-rolled joints are geared towards one end goal; wellness.

Van Zandt explained that his company’s pre-rolls are formulated with a focus on CBD, the calming compound derived from cannabis, instead of making high THC products that give the user a psychoactive and stimulating high. Van Zandt’s new cannabis line dropped this fall and is exclusively available in Massachusetts’ Canna Provisions dispensaries located in Lee and Holyoke.

The 71-year-old star hails from Massachusetts, so it was fitting for Van Zandt to release his new cannabis line in his old stomping grounds. He recently toured Canna Provisions’ Holyoke dispensary to see how things are coming together and get a consumer’s point of view.

Van Zandt has been an advocate for cannabis legalization for years, and he’s pleased to see that we’re finally getting somewhere, state by state. According to the Daily Hampshire Gazette, Van Zandt said that “hopefully, we get to a place where it’s just legal, just pain old legal.” He’s hopeful that his new cannabis brand will help put that into action; he added that 10% of the profits from his company’s pre-rolls will be donated to the National Organization for Marijuana Legalization, a.k.a., NORML.

As the pandemic struck the US, Van Zandt came up with the idea for his new cannabis brand when thinking about ways to strengthen the body’s immune system. This resulted in the launch of Little Steven’s Underground Apothecary that sells wellness-oriented products. In October, Van Zandt told Boston.com that his brand’s cannabis leans towards the medical side since it can help people with various illnesses or simply help users “go to sleep and just relax.”

The Gazette reports that Little Steven’s Underground Apothecary’s pre-rolls are crafted from Smash Hits cannabis, grown in Sheffield by Gregory “Chemdog” Krzanowski. The Gazette also notes that Meg Sanders, co-founder, and CEO of Canna Provisions, said the pre-roll line comes in small tins to avoid the use of harmful and heavy plastics.
