The Bud Bowl: Quick Recap Of Last Night’s Super Bowl LVI In A Weed-Friendly State

Super Bowl LVI saw a cannabis-loving crowd last night, not to mention a victorious home team and powerhouse halftime show.

Super Bowl LVI was in full swing last night, and the Los Angeles Rams came out victorious against the Cincinnati Bengals with a 23-20 lead. Yesterday’s event was the first time a Super Bowl was held in a weed-friendly state.

All the more appropriate was the star-studded halftime show with fellow cannabis enthusiast Snoop Dogg, alongside Dre. Dre, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, and Mary J. Blige.

Can we have a moment to appreciate their incredible performances last night? The energy was at a high, and the show will probably go down as one of the best halftime performances in history (shoutout to Beyonce’s performance in 2013).

That’s not all; the dispensaries around SoFi Stadium were packed all weekend long with consumers trying to re-up their stash for the main event on Sunday evening.

Since California legalized cannabis a few years ago, the Los Angeles market, in particular, has been a thriving region for cannabis sales and consumption, especially for recreational users. There are about two dispensaries in a 2-mile radius of the SoFi Stadium, and heaven knows they were probably at capacity this weekend, not to mention the other 200 dispensaries in the city.

According to Marca, some top brands that were selling like hotcakes this weekend were Skyhigh LA, Puff Los Angeles, LA Wonderland Marijuana, and retailer with delivery Pineapple Express. In other news, 1998 Heisman Trophy winner and former NFL player Ricky Williams has been making waves with his cannabis brand Highsman, which he relaunched yesterday in honor of Super Bowl LVI.

What many are calling “The Bud Bowl” was a success yesterday, especially for the home team. Marie St. Fleur, acting executive director and CEO of the National Association of Cannabis Businesses, told Marca that having the Super Bowl in a recreational weed-legalized state “is pretty special.”

In addition, she says it’s “exciting that there is a conversation about the cannabis industry happening.” While this was a major step forward for the cannabis industry, the NFL still makes clear that weed is a restricted substance, which prohibits its use during events and broadcasts. It also prohibits all cannabis-related advertisements at games and in commercials during broadcasts.
