Which Cities Have Had The Most Success Post-Cannabis Legalization?

Can you believe 18 states have legalized recreational cannabis? It may not seem like a ton, considering there are still 34 to catch up. This year, we’re landing on the official 10-year anniversary of the first two states to pave the way for recreational cannabis, Colorado and Washington. 

With the current 18 states in mind, we can only imagine the progress we’ll make in another ten years, birthing a whole new generation of educated, health-conscious cannabis users finding needed relief from recreational or medicinal marijuana. 

Not to mention the progressive moves made by Congress and lawmakers, constantly creating new bills that would move the U.S. into a federally decriminalized place while expunging the criminal records of those incarcerated with non-violent cannabis crimes. 

Today, it’s invigorating to say that we have 37 states with a medical marijuana program, and in honor of the country’s progress over the past decade, we’re shedding light on which cities have had the most success in terms of recreational legalization and how much revenue they’ve generated. 

The report comes from Real Estate Witch, highlighting “the best weed cities in the U.S.” based on the following factors; 

• Legal status
• Marijuana google searches
• Price of different qualities of weed (e.g., high quality & medium quality) along with annual income
• How many dispensaries per 100,000 residents within a certain radius 
• How many head shops per 100,000 residents within a certain radius 
• How many Taco Bells per 100,000 residents
• How many music festivals, small concert venues, movie theaters, and local hiking trails

According to the Real Estate Witch report, the following are the top 10 “weed cities” in the United States based on the weighted factors above;

1. Denver, Colorado
2. Portland, Oregon
3. Sacramento, California
4. Las Vegas, Nevada
5. San Jose, California
6. Seattle, Washington
7. San Francisco, California
8. San Diego, California
9. Los Angeles, California
10. Phoenix, Arizona
